Mosquito Treatment Program to resume

PUBLIC NOTICE NEIGHBORHOOD MOSQUITO TREATMENT PROGRAM The City of Hiram's annual treatment program attempting to reduce the mosquito populations in and around the incorporated limits of downtown Hiram will be conducted every Monday and Thursday during the mosquito breeding season. During this time, the City will be actively fogging along the rights-of-way of our City streets. Treatment fogging activities will take place on the days indicated between 5:00 AM and 7AM, weather permitting. The fogging chemical that is used for this purpose is not a pesticide, but a growth inhibitor, and is not harmful to humans, pets, or wildlife, and is environmentally safe. The treatment prevents mosquito larvae from maturing to adult mosquitoes. While these efforts will not eliminate mosquitoes entirely, it will reduce their populations, and aid in preventing the transmission of mosquito-born illnesses. High levels of this chemical can have a negative impact on some aquatic life, such as fish. While our applications of this chemical will not be in the range that would be harmful to fish, for your own peace of mind you may take extra precautions. For additional information, click the link below or you may call 770-943-3276. Here are some things you can do at home to reduce the mosquito population and your interaction with mosquitoes: •Toss away old containers or other items where water can collect, including old flower pots •Tip outdoor furniture to avoid standing water on cushions •Consider staying indoors from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active •If you must be outside, protect your skin with repellent and wear appropriate clothing. Light colors are least attractive to mosquitoes.
